Toby McPartland, Lead Pig Wrangler

I am a first generation farmer and rancher, passionate for demonstrating the economic viability of small-scale agricultural systems. I am proud to live in Hotchkiss and be a contributing part to the Delta County Colorado farming community. I enjoy growing good food, raising healthy animals and sharing my skills. I have spent time abroad including the Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa and as an agricultural consultant in both Costa Rica and Guatemala. I have worked in farm management at the Center for Urban Agriculture, The Esalen Institute, Cal Poly State University and Twin Willows Land & Cattle Company.

Hayden Kessel, Ranch Hand

I grew up with great food in my backyard and have long held a passion for wholesome nutrition. As a proud omnivore, I desire a close relationship with the meat I eat and am grateful for the ultimate sacrifice these pigs make to feed us so well. Our spot in Hotchkiss, Colorado offers so much bounty for our animals and me to enjoy. I studied design in college and enjoy contributing my different skills to the farm, from in-field problem solving to logo and brand development. Belly rubs and back scratches are among my top priorities on the land. I am excited to start each morning before the sun comes up over the West Elk Mountains.

Our Pigs

Our heritage breed pigs prefer to work for their food and are regularly moved to fresh pastures. Pigs really do graze! These highly intelligent and social animals thrive foraging, playing and exploring the cottonwood forest and lush fields here in Hotchkiss, Colorado. We take great pride offering our pigs a good life.

What is A Perfect Pasture?

Make no mistake, the best bacon comes from a sweet pasture:
Fescue, rye, wheat grass, clovers, alfalfa, dandelion, chicory...
...this is a hog's heaven of greens and goodies.
They also receive a NON-GMO custom grain ration and other supplemental treats like organic apples.
A perfect pasture naturally sustains its fertility. It's a cycle we appreciate and enhance by moving the pigs every two weeks to fresh ground.
The pigs are good for the land and the land is good for the pigs.

Now its Time to Stock Your Freezer

We offer Whole and Half hogs that are USDA processed. Plan on approximately one cubic foot of freezer space, about the size of one milk crate, for every 25 pounds of meat; that is about 6 cubic feet for a Whole Hog.
